About TroutWindow
Bait-first hatch maps and honest gage reads. Deepest coverage sits in the Southeast today; the footprint is national wherever USGS, agency regs, and hatch notes support a solid call.
The idea
TroutWindow (troutwindow.com) helps you figure out where and when to fish: hatch notes, a short list of waters, and how much to trust the nearest gage.
Matching the hatch and showing up when fish are eating depends on place and conditions. That knowledge is scattered. Public flow and temp data exist, but they aren’t usually married to bug and fish behavior in one place. We lean into waters where that stack is already rich — Southeast first in depth, national in footprint.
Incubated quietly at Eveleth Labs.
What’s here
On the site
- SE hatch calendar with stage language
- 10 featured waters with real gage binds or TBD
- Grades A–D for how close the data is
- Static temp bands and time-of-day tips
- Thermal ethics: soft hold upper 60s; never invent hoot-owl
What we won’t do
- Guaranteed hatch clock times
- Barometer / moon as headline predictors
- Pretend ungaged freestones have live flow clarity
- Invent USGS IDs or closures
- Route you onto stressed fish or active redds
Ethics
Access notes stay conservative — no parking workarounds, trespass tips, or hole-by-hole pins on sensitive water. Fall spawn: we won’t route you onto active redds.
How we’re different
TroutRoutes and RiverApp answer what is cfs or temperature right now. TroutWindow aims at where you should go, when, what’s likely hatching, and whether trout are likely eating — with the confidence grade visible.
Why we talk about windows Browse waters
Built from research notes and the featured waters list. Hatch cards use regional SE priors checked against agency pages where we can.
